Seek Out Joy

Sometimes I wake up feeling crummy. It’s often a combination of self doubt and all of the unprocessed thoughts leftover from the day before. Here are 3 things I do to seek out joy when I’m having difficulty creating it from the inside out.

  1. I write down my thoughts. I’m a pretty emotional individual and in order to prevent emotional hijacking, it’s important for me to reflect and process. Writing down my thoughts helps me to do both. I do this through prayer as well.

  2. I scroll with intention. Most of my work involves social media, so rather than scroll on autopilot and let the algorithm feed me, I go directly to accounts that I know bring me joy and inspire the best of me. One of my favorite IG accounts right now is @radhidevlukia, spreading joy is in her bio. Not only do I experience joy but I feel inspired and equipped to create after spending some time on her page.

  3. I move my body. It’s science. Moving our bodies through exercise or even just going for a walk releases the feel good hormones and helps boost our mood. For me, running usually does the trick, especially when my poor mood is hormone related - that’s much thicker mud to wade through.

I would encourage you to pay attention to your thoughts and practice seeking out joy, we can only give of what we already we have. More joy creates more joy.

I hope this helps!
