Developing preferences.

When I was in elementary, I remember sitting on the front steps of my friends house, it was dark out and we were drinking hot cocoa and talking about our dreams. It was one of the first deep conversations I remember having with a peer. It was past our bedtime and I felt so grown up, sipping something that looked like coffee and talking about such grown up things, like where we wanted to live and who we wanted to be when we grew up. I remember that night vividly. I think my brain made new connections and developed preferences. I learned that I preferred deep conversations full of honesty and vulnerability, I found great joy in entertaining thoughts that were bigger than me and connecting all of that with another human being. Our true colors are fascinating, they develop early and take new shapes as we grow. My favorite days still reflect those preferences. Meaningful conversations with loved ones, a lot of laughter and many of the best cups of coffee.💛
